Global Architecture: 70s Glamour

http://archiveofaffinities.tumblr.com
Hello, La Dolce Vita readers! Brendan here of (BAD) Blog About Design. Built from 1974 to 1980 by architect Martin van Trek, the "Organs of Flanders", are a group of residential buildings located in Paris, France. Each of the buildings designed by Trek, have their own voice, yet work together to create one piece of art. The porthole windows give these buildings an edge, an unexpected touch, a sense of being on the sea. I am a huge fan of the middle building designed by Trek, because of its unusual form.

Furnishings in the 1970s were all about irregular shapes. The key to giving your home 70s flare is to bring in unique pieces. Shopping at flee markets or investing in quality vintage furniture is a great start. The 1970s Pierre Paulin Chair is from Visiona. The seat resembles the curves Trek used throughout the buildings. The Italian 1970s Vistosi Metal & Glass Chandelier is from Visiona. The circular disks resemble the porthole windows. The 1970s "African Table" by John Dickinson is from Coup d'Etat. The three legs resemble the building to the far left of the photograph.

Create This Look In Your Home:
In addition to unusual forms, design in the 1970s was also about bold patterns. Incorporating rugs and pillows with a bold pattern in your space is a great way to give your home some 70s flare. The 1970s Ethiopian high back chair is from Trove. The beautiful wood work and cut out motifs designated this chair for a highly regarded individual in an Ethiopian tribe. The Italian Murano 1970s glass fixture is from Space107. The 1970s French rug by Pierre Cardin is from Tishu Gallery. The geometric design of this rug was popularized in the 1970s. You can add as little or as much to your space as you want. Don't follow rules, just do.

I've been reading your blog for a while now and just love how well thought out your posts always are. I especially love posts that highlight the home and fashion, since I'm always feeling like whatever I'm embracing in my home is usually what is hanging up in my closet, it's nice to the same concept visually on your blog!

Especially love all the topshop shoes!!!
