High Gloss Magazine in the New York Times!

I am thrilled to share that High Gloss Magazine is featured in today’s New York Times as well as on their website in an article titled “The Thriving (Online) Shelter Magazine Industry”. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be in the New York Times! This is definitely a “pinch-me” moment. I have to say that I am disappointed that they did not mention my partner and co-founder, Lauren Rauter or our Art Production Manager, Dabney Lee after I asked them to, but am incredibly grateful that they chose to write about the project we have all poured our hearts and souls into.

A big congratulations goes out to my friends, Crystal Gentilello and Anne Sage of Rue, Katie Armour of Matchbook as well as to the team at Lonny.

Hi,
I'm glad you're getting exposure and credit for your hard work but maybe you should take a second look at the article. The author seems a little snarky, condescending and nit-picky to be honest. He's more interested in the lack of offices and expenditure reveals and starting a cat fight between Ms. Adams and other editors than what online magazines are bringing to the publication world.

Anon, you are right. I am a bit disappointed in the overall tone of the article and the fact that the reader doesn't really get a sense for what High Gloss is about in the article. I know that it seems to be taking a dig at the online mags more than anything. Nevertheless, it is exciting to see yourself and your project in the Times!

Congrats on being in the NYTimes. I just read the article, it was pretty snarky. You should feel good that all they did was forget to mention your co-founder and art-production manager. The tone of the article was something out of a high school drama. Which is funny as I read all of the on-line magazines and the blogs of many of the people mentioned and have never felt like there was a bitchy competition behind the scenes. There is room for all of you to succeed and I will continue to read all four. I have enjoyed High Gloss and look forward to future issues!!!

Yea, I am excited that you are in the Times - but they made it seem as though all online shelter mags are sad followings of Lonny. They even play up Ms. Adams' response regarding Issuu (or however it's spelled) and how it was 'discovered' by others after Lonny.

Congrats on your article - but I think it [the article] is reminiscent of a backhanded compliment...

What an amazing compliment! Congrats to you and your whole team for the hard work and a major pat on the back. It takes a great vision to pull through the ways yours has...can't wait to see what is next!

Conrats on being featured in the NY Times. As previous people said the tone of the article wasn't very nice but in the end what matter is that you have accomplished a great deal. You and your team do a fantastic job and I love reading High Gloss and well as the other online magazines.

Paloma,

I agree with you- it is a little disappointing to read the negative tone, but overall it's absolutely exciting and I'm sure it will draw new readers to High Gloss!!! Congrats!!

Really surprised at the tone in the article. But should we be THAT surprised -- this is an article in a traditionally printed publication that is part of a (sadly) dying industry. Where they may see an end, we all see a beginning. Keep up the great work Paloma, you are doing a fantastic job!

Paloma, this is really great congrats! As for the overall tone that you mention, I think really any press is a good thing! I also think it points to the fact that a very broad audience is beginning to recognize the power that these fabulous online mags really have!

As usual, the NYT can get over themselves with the tone of the article. I think you're inspiring and love reading High Gloss!

Congratulations!!! I read the article and agree with most readers here that the tone was disappointing... Im a big fan of Lonny and Rue and never viewed any of these online magazines as rivals. I think they all have a different point of view and there is room to succeed for all of them. I really enjoyed Grace's response to the article on Design Sponge and wish we could comment on the article at the NYTimes but couldn't find a way to do so.

Congrats Paloma! So very honored to be able to call you a friend. I'm proud of any woman who instead of just sitting around, is doing something that takes bravery and courage, not to mention hard work, talent, and at times, a thick skin. Much continued success to High Gloss and anyone else taking their destiny into their own hands and going after their dreams!

First things first: Congratulations to you and the High Gloss team for the NYT article! Very, very exciting. However, I must admit I was extremely dissappointed with the tone and certain aspects of focus from the NYT. I definitely think the online world is up and coming and most definitely High Gloss.
