House Tour: Kristen Nix’s Houston Home

image
The home of Houston-based interior designer, Kristen Nix was recently featured on CultureMap.com, giving Houstonian’s a glimpse into her warmly furnished mid-century home in Houston’s Tanglewood neighborhood. The home was built by architect Preston Bolton in 1963 and is composed of the clean lines that were characteristic of that period in time. Nix warmed up the home through the use of texture. Rather than using a lot of color in the home, she added warmth and richness through the use of materials such as grasscloth wallcoverings and seagrass rugs—two favorite Houston design elements. Nix’s approach to design is classic and tailored with a touch of glamour resulting in a home that is stylish, but completely functional for a young family like hers.

{In the living room, Nix opted for a mix of furnishings from various periods. I love seeing modern elements like the tulip table and the screen juxtaposed with the traditional silhouette of the antique desk.}

{This lovely vignette features an antique Spanish chest, a Saladino-inspired cylinder lamp, and framed artwork from an old edition of Neiman Marcus’ The Book from Nix’s days working at Neiman’s.}

{I love the modern kitchen and the soothing grey color Nix selected for her cabinetry. She also opted for a Small Hicks Pendant in Polished Nickel here.}

{In the breakfast room, Nix mixes the casual elegance of these wicker chairs with a tulip table and a Large Hicks Pendant in Bronze and Brass.}

{The neutral palette continues into the master bedroom.}

Beautiful home! Can you tell me where the rug in the breakfast room came from?
