Fabulous Room Friday 01.17.14

miles living room

Happy Friday! It has been a busy but very productive week—either way, I am ready for the weekend. This week, as I have kept an eye out for the room to feature today, I kept going back to this glamorous bedroom by Miles Redd. Yes, that is two Fridays in a row for Miles on LDV, but this new Brooklyn project featured in House Beautiful really has a lot to love. Last week, I focused on the amazing family room in this Brooklyn townhouse, but truth be told, I identify with the living room a bit more. I love that it skews slightly more masculine and the room features a fantastic mix of fabrics, colors, and textures. The navy velvet sofa is exactly what the doctor ordered. Not to mention, it really anchors the room. The natural-colored grasscloth wallpaper provides a nice, neutral background for all of the pops of color including a custom turquoise screen covered in Holland & Sherry’s Kensington wool, a pair of green Christopher Spitzmiller lamps, and blue and white ikat fabric that covers a chair and pillow. The mix of colors is rich without being over the top. The saddle leather chairs and sumptuous gold seagrass and silk velvet chair in the foreground keep everything grounded. The room is at once cozy and inspiring. What are your thoughts? Do you like this room? Is it closer in keeping with your taste than last week’s room or do you prefer the grandness of that one instead?

Kourtney Kardashian recently posted her self decorated home decor on Instagram, any thoughts about it?

Hi Maggie,

I saw her house tour on Domaine yesterday and I've seen glimpses of Kourtney's house on TV. She actually worked with a designer, Jeff Andrews, but was heavily involved in the process. There are elements of the house that I like, but overall it feels like a bit much. There's just a lot going on. It's like Coco Chanel said in reference to one's outfit. You always remove one accessory to keep from being over the top. I feel like I would have stepped back, observed it, and then edited the looks a bit. However, I know their mission was to go big and bold, so they achieved that.

Thank you for reading La Dolce Vita!

Cheers,
Paloma
