Remembering David Collins

Snip20130718_136 {David Collins, designer of some of the world’s most iconic hospitality spaces, passed away in his sleep on July 17, 2013 surrounded by his family and friends. He was diagnosed with malignant skin cancer just three weeks ago.}

I was devastated to hear about the death of one of my design idols, David Collins of David Collins Studio this week. I've admired his work for so long. Each of his projects was exquisite and extraordinarily inspiring. David designed some of the most beautiful commercial spaces in the world. I will remember him fondly as he was always so kind to me, sending me a sweet personal note whenever I blogged about his work. We even talked about planning a visit to his studio the next time I was in London. David was only 58 when a very aggressive form of skin cancer took him much too soon. Instead of a traditional “Fabulous Room” feature this week, I leave you with many fabulous rooms designed by David over the years. I am deeply saddened by the loss of someone who has inspired me beyond measure and more than he could ever know, but his legacy will live on through his extraordinary work.
