If you’ve read La Dolce Vita long enough, then you probably know that I always refer to spaces that appear “layered and collected” to be my favorite. I was so pleased to see the home of Daniel Cuellar featured in the current issue of Paper City, a Houston and Dallas-based style publication. You may not know Daniel by name, but you may recall his work. I recently wrote a post about a fabulous Houston design destination, Area, where Daniel has reigned as store director for the past fifteen years. The Paper City feature, written by editor and fashion designer, Laurann Claridge, delves into Daniel’s affinity for intricate boxes, lucite pieces, religious relics and design books. Naturally, Daniel’s home is right up my alley!

{Daniel’s eclectic living room features furnishings, accessories, and artwork from around the globe.}
{A Gold Plated heart from Michelle Varian in New York rests within a rock crystal bowl from Area- I love these two pieces!}
{A Sterling Silver Beetle Rests Upon an Amethyst and Lucite Box}
{Pieces from Cuellar’s contemporary art collection comingle with iconic mid-century furnishings like the Brno chairs and Knoll Florence cocktail table.}
{Skulls are one of Cuellar’s favorite items to collect. With his curating, the result is chic rather than macabre.}
{A Few of Cuellar’s Prized Boxes—Covered in Everything from Zebra Hide to Shagreen}
{The entry to Cuellar’s three-story townhome features a chrome Ligne Roset lamp, a 19th century sketch and a collection of hands atop a vintage dental cabinet.}
{The master bath includes Cuellar’s cologne collection, a 19th century Italian study of a foot and bamboo clock from Pottery Barn}

I would love to transport all the living room contents into mine. Gorgeous place. Great style and as usual, great eye, Paloma!
Im not sure when it happened, but I really think the Houston design scene/design shopping scene is one of my favorites.
Dying over these images and obsessed with this space and the fab styling!

The living room is gorgeous!!
Beautiful and thoughtful! An elegant study in contrasts and carefull curation.
It is indeed an ART! It is difficult to "teach" this to someone. I always go back to basic composition as in a still life painting or a photograph.
Terrific selection!
The bedroom is AMAZING!
I am always so surprised when I meet a client WITHOUT some type of collection? Makes it harder to read their style and personality :(
Great post!
Tamara
I am also a fan of the lived-in, layered and collected style of design. Such interiors reflect the owners' personalities more and create a more inviting atmosphere.
Thank you for the introduction to Daniel Cuellar. His work definitely resonates with me.
Cheers,
Claudia
