Fabulous Room Friday 02.17.12

jon call6

{This handsome living room by Jon call features a masculine, polished color palette, classic furnishings mixed with modern touches and a Vendome Large Chandelier by Thomas O’Brien for Visual Comfort resulting in a vintage modern vibe.}

I first saw this beautiful living room in the March 2012 issue of House Beautiful. The shelter magazine’s new “The Next Wave” feature focused on talented interior designer, Jon Call. Based in New York, Call honed his design skills working with Diamond Baratta and Shawn Henderson. In 2010, Call branched out on his own and founded Mr. Call Designs. I really loved the feature in House Beautiful because in addition to showing me that Call has great style, it also allowed for his sense of humor to shine through. I love a fiercely talented person who doesn’t take his or her self too seriously. In addition, I also loved the stunning room the magazine selected for his profile from his portfolio, which of course, made me want to see more.

This chic living room is part of an apartment in Chelsea, fully decorated by Call. The polished space is the culmination of a blending of styles—mid-century Laurel lamps coexist with a gilded French mirror and modern chairs. In his House Beautiful feature, Call states “The best American design is a melting pot of styles. In this living room, I’ve got a French mirror, Asian tables, midcentury table lamps, and an English sofa pulled to crazy-long proportions. It shouldn’t work, but it does.” And work it certainly does!

{The living room features a gilded, Baroque mirror along with a clean-lined sofa stretched to a 12ft length, statement-making lamps and end tables along with a handsome, tufted ottoman in cognac leather with brass nailhead trim.}

{In place of a coffee table, Call opted to use his client’s tea table to create a small seating area on the other end of the 12 foot sofa, which lends itself to creating separate seating areas—a huge plus for New York living.}

Stay tuned for an interview with Jon Call on the Visual Comfort blog coming very soon! Bon weekend!

Gorgeous space. Especially loving the juxtaposition of the furniture....How that sensational mirror to the right of the sofa is so well-balanced by the tea table. As interesting as it is beautiful. Can't wait to get this issue in the mail!

Enjoy your weekend, Paloma! ox
