Black (and White) Magic

As much as I love to embrace color, sometimes its absence can be even more powerful. I always gravitate towards black and white, especially in my wardrobe because these colors are always classic, sophisticated, and timeless. They’re a blank canvas ready for whatever accessories you decide to pair them with. Lately, I haven’t been able to get enough of this powerful color combination—from the façade of my absolute dream home and sophisticated, effortless outfits to pairing black and white with a little gold to really make it pop, this tried and true color combination feels fresher than ever before.

{My Dream Home designed by Commune Design L.A., Gardens by Art Luna—I’ve loved this house since it was featured in Domino years ago. It was also the exterior I chose for the post that started my “Dream Home” series back in 2010.}

{This kitchen, spotted on Pinterest, is a gorgeous combination of black, white, modern, and traditional.}

{This black and white outfit via Frankie Loves Fashion is so effortlessly chic. The gold necklace is the perfect finishing touch.}

{This week I fell in love with this fabric by Steve McKenzie after seeing it on this chair in the room by Rhonda Peterson at the Atlanta Inspiration Showhouse. I love the graphic, abstract quality of the pattern. }

{This Emerson Fry tuxedo is perfectly tailored and sexy.}

{I don’t think this darling house requires much of an explanation. I love the symmetry of the elevation and the black and white striped awnings. It’s quite a charmer!}

{It’s no secret that Olivia Palermo is one of my style icons. Everything she wears is so chic and this classic ensemble—black skinnies, white blouse, black cape, is no exception.}

{We all know that I am a lamp tramp with a case of Midas fever, so naturally, my heart skipped a beat when I saw this gorgeous Brass Curls lamp by John Richard. It’s so sculptural and beautiful. I love the contrast of the brass against the black glass base and the white silk shade with black trim. The overall look reminds me of the fabulous Laurel lamps from the 1950s and 60s.}

{How stunning and unexpected is this tabletop spotted on 100 Layer Cake?}

{This look is right up my alley: black and white style staples, statement jewelry and Chanel bag, and a red manicure for a pop of color. What’s not to love?}

What color palette are you currently most inspired by?

We both had black on our brains today! Ahh, that exterior though- I'll be sleeping over if you ever do move in. It's perfection.

Help! I want to paint my house the exact color of your dream exterior. I have searched everywhere for the article from House Beautiful that might mention the color specifically - do you haven't in your files ? Thank you so, so much!
