This week’s “Fab Room” is the glamorous Los Angeles living room of Alex Hitz, featured in the November issue of House Beautiful. Alex Hitz is a celebrity chef, cookbook author, and philanthropist, so naturally, he created a home that was perfectly suited to entertaining. The space has soaring ceilings and massive windows, allowing the setting sun to shine on the cream velvet sofa. I love the opulence of this room. Everything from the gilded mirror to the Maison Jansen bergere chairs upholstered in sumptuous leopard fabric emanates a feeling of glamour and luxury. It’s the perfect dramatic backdrop for a cocktail party, don’t you think? The Marcel Breuer leather and steel chairs (I have a pair in my home!), rustic, wide-planked wood floors, modern artwork, and brass pharmacy lamps offer the perfect juxtaposition, creating harmony between the overtly feminine pieces and their more masculine counterparts.
Contemporary artist, Iris Schomaker’s oeuvre, “Swimmer” holds court over the De Angelis sofa upholstered in rich Clarence House velvet. I am so in love with the leopard Jansen chairs. I also think it’s ingenious to use the pharmacy as uplights to create a dramatic effect over the painting.}
What are you up to this weekend? My birthday is on Sunday so I am looking forward to a little celebrating! Bon weekend!
