Love it or Leave it: White Kitchens

kitchen style at home eos

{Style at Home}

This has been a hot topic of debate lately, creating lots of strong opinions. I will go ahead and say that I definitely think white kitchens are classic. Yes, they have been all over the place in recent memories, but I don’t think I would go into a kitchen with white cabinetry and subway tiles and think “Wow, this is dated!” the way that I would in a kitchen with blond cabinets and tan granite countertops. So, what is your take on the white kitchen? Love it or leave it?

Love it! It's such a timeless and classic color for kitchen and the color is so versatile.

For me, the white kitchen is a classic and a perpetual favorite. I always return to it when it comes to choosing my own kitchen decor (had it in my last house and installing it in the home we are building now too).

That first image you posted has been my inspiration picture ever since I first saw it over a year ago (also posted my white kitchen inspirations on my blog) and most definitely is one of my favorites of all time!

A white kitchen, like a Birkin, will never go out of style.

I personally love white kitchens. I agree, you can't necessarily assign an "era" to them like you can with other cabinets. They just look so clean to me too. I think they are popular because they are classic.

I completely agree with you. White kitchens will always be clean and classic. As for the naysayers who think that it's difficult to maintain a white kitchen -- wouldn't you WANT to know that your kitchen was clean and spotless? I'd rather know that surfaces need to be wiped down than be "hiding" spills and stains behind darker finishes!

The hubs and I are having this exact same debate right now! We're buying a house that needs a full kitchen remodel and at first we were very anti-white kitchen. However, we love dark hardwood floors and dark countertops, so it seems white cabinets are the only way to go. We're torn!

Definitely a classic! I also love the fact that you can see every bit of dirt - makes cleaning easier!

I love it because you can't get tired of it! And it is so clean! Classic!

I will always be a fan of the classic white kitchen (and not just because I just built a house with one in it!) These pictures are timeless...

I loooove the backsplash in the first (House Beautiful) picture. While kitchens are still beautiful, but maybe not what I'd rush out to do if I were re-doing my kitchen today.

No matter how many white kitchens I have designed, I still love a white contemporary or traditional kitchen

I think there are very few things that are as classic and timeless as a well done white kitchen (well done being the key words here) tall cabinets (preferably all the way up) some glass if possible, nice quality, white marble gets big bonus points, great hardware, good applicances, classic materials for backsplashes (ie subways or marble..hate trendy patterns and backsplashes) beautiful flooring..these are all the elements of a classic timeless white kitchen. Yes, they are everywhere but they are beautiful and like good things they stand the test of time.

Love them! Just redid our kitchen in Cloud White and did a carrera marble subway tile with dark hardwood floors. Kitchens are such a large investment that it's too risky to follow trends.

I will always absoultely love them!! It's what drew us to our house. In my opinion, there's nothing like white cabinetry!! You found beautiful images to show! :)

I don't think I will ever tire of a white kitchen. Yes, they are everywhere but if you select a beautiful, classic design, you can update it with hardware, wall paint color, tile, countertops and appliances. I am working through a similar debate regarding Carrera marble countertops. They are everywhere, so I've been looking for a classic alternative

White kitchens are classic -- whether they are in a huge estate home or a country farmhouse. But I think the blogosphere is over saturated with them, and the majority of pictures give a false image about what living with with a white kitchen is like. There are never any finger smudges on the cabinets, no dust in the intricate door panels, and the white marble countertop is never stained from spaghetti sauce.

I have one and I love it. In fact, I've had several going back to the early 80s and I never tire of them.

I just re-did my London kitchen in the 'classic' white kitchen style here (white paint, glass fronted cabinets, calacatta marble, dark floors). I also think its classic, but interestingly in London, it is pretty unusual. Everyone thinks I am a genius for 'coming up' with the look ;)

Is it OK to not love it?? Not sure about speaking up after all the love! :) I do love PHOTOS of white kitchens. But I don't think I want to LIVE with a white kitchen. When house-hunting, we passed on several houses with white kitchens. But I also do not like dark kitchens or cherry cabinets or these oak color cabinets in our house either. We bought the house for the location and property because you can always change the kitchen and we intend to. I do like lighter kitchens, just not lots of white.

All true; a classic white kitchen never dates...but there is something to be said for a well-designed kitchen that manages to be timeless AND incorporates colour. Tricky, but doable!

I'm not a huge fan of a lot of white space but a white kitchen (if done right) is amazing. They are classy, clean and bright. A kitchen should be warm and inviting and I think white is great. Love these examples.

Most definitely love it! I so want to paint my kitchen but my husband is dead set against it. He says I can do whatever anywhere else in the house but as for the kitchen it needs to remain the way it is! I'm sad, but hey the rest of the house is mine, :)!

I have to say that I love white kitchens as well and think they are classic. However I'm not a big fan of painted cabinets. That being said when we built our farmhouse a couple of years ago I felt like the house needed white cabinets. I ended up going with woodmode's brookhaven line of cabinetry and couldn't be happier. They actually apply the finish like a stain. It is very smooth and even and easy to maintain.

I die for white kitchens! White gives them a polished glamour unachievable by any other hue. Love carrara marble, as well. Go, white kitchens!
