Kansas City Trip: Day One

The Giralda Tower at Country Club Plaza is modeled after the original Giralda in Seville, Spain.

We're back! We had a fabulous time visiting Fabian's sister and brother-in-law in Kansas City. They showed us a great time and we were both very pleasantly surprised by Kansas City. I don't know what we were expecting, but it really exceeded our expectations. It is a very beautiful city filled with interesting architecture. I took 300 pictures in three days, so I will be summing up our trip in three separate blog posts.

Spanish Architecture at Country Club Plaza

I loved the zig zag pattern in the tile work on this dome.

Fabian and his sister, Gissel

Halls Department Store

Pretty Vignette at Halls

Halls
I really liked this table.

Kansas City is home to Hallmark which was founded by the same people as Halls. They have a huge presence in the city.

One last shot of Halls

I loved this Spanish-inspired mural at the plaza, naturally!

Pretty Architecture

Gissel thinks this might be Russel Stover's house. This neighborhood is right down the street from Country Club Plaza is filled with the most gorgeous homes on the most incredible lots. I could have driven around stalking houses for hours, but my sister-in-law probably would have thought I was weird.
Gissel and her husband, Brian just purchased a new home a couple of months ago. It is really lovely and has a ton of cool features.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for Part II of our trip to Kansas City! It was my favorite day and included lots of great sightseeing and experiences.

It looks like you had an amazing time. All these pictures remind me of the time I spent in Seville, Spain visiting family. I never knew Kansas City had such amazing Spanish architecture.

I love shopping in The Plaza. Although, come to think of it, I have never actually bought anything while I was there! I just like the atmosphere. Christmas time there is my favorite. You should see it lit up at night!

Wow so pretty. I've been dying to go to Kansas City for awhile now and after seeing those pictures I know it's a most.

It all looks so amazing. I love all the Spanish influence and can't wait to see more!

How did Tate do away from Mom and Dad?

They have such pretty dogs. They even seem to match the house.

P - so glad you had fun in KC! It really is a great town. I grew up taking weekend trips to the Plaza. Halls is a must when you're there - glad you went. :)

I've read both posts and it looks like you hit all the good stuff. Your experience is so common - not a great mental impression then when you see it you realize it's a great city. Thanks for spreading the word.
