Red Carpet Recap: Golden Globes 2010

7
{My Favorite of the Night: The Amazing Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabbana}
This year’s Golden Globes were a bit of a let down fashion-wise. The show was actually very entertaining and was peppered with both funny and touching moments: Ricky Gervais calling Mel Gibson out on his drinking, Mo’Nique’s, Meryl Streep’s, and Sandra Bullock’s touching acceptance speeches, and my favorite speech of the night by the hilarious Robert Downey, Jr. So, while I enjoyed the show, I can’t say I was blown away by anyone’s dress. A handful got it right, but the overwhelming theme of the evening seemed to be tacky, overly adorned prom dresses in garish colors. I won’t focus on the negative, but I will share my favorites of the evening with you.
Julia Roberts
I loved Julia Robert’s drapey, black jersey dress. I could totally see myself wearing this. She definitely stood out in a sea of tacky prom dresses this year.
CAMERON DIAZ photo | Cameron Diaz
I actually liked Cameron’s red Alexander McQueen dress. If styled just a little differently, it may have swayed more people to like it. I do think however, that her shiny makeup and pulled-back hair looked much too severe.
January Jones
I really liked January Jones’ look. I love that she wore a chic black Lanvin gown in a sea of cotton candy hues. The headband is darling and lends a vintage vibe. Does anyone else think she looks much prettier in character for Mad Men than she usually does in modern day clothes?
Anna Paquin
I liked Anna Paquin’s Stella McCartney gown. She looks great in gold and the shape is lovely on her. I just wasn’t crazy about the shoes she paired with it.

Reese Witherspoon, one of my personal style icons looked beautiful at the Globes. The shape and color of her dress were classic and I loved that she didn't overdo it with the accessories. She, along with Emily Blunt had my favorite looks of the evening.

I think Julia's is one of the more polarizing looks of the night. I thought she looked good, just underwhelming for the event.

I thought Emily looked great - loved the accessories.

The colour of Reese's dress was perfect on her.

I thought Cameron's dress looked better on stage than in any photos or on the red carpet.

I don't know squat about fashion- but I love when people go against the grain and NOT play it safe. I don't care for the obnoxious (gaga).
I love the purple dress Sandra Bulloch wore. After viewing the internet blogs......I think I'm the only one! I loved the color on her.
The one I really disliked was Chloe Sevigny's dress. It looked just like the drapes in my grandmother's house. To each their own I guess......

I loved January Jones look too! I agree that she looks better dressed in her Mad Men clothes, and maybe it's because red lipstick looks so good on her.

I completely agree with you about January Jones. I am constantly stricken by her on Mad Men, but always underwhelmed when I see her out of character. Why is this? I think that it is just so refreshing to see such a different look on a celebrity. The prim and properness is so unique compared to what we usually, see it makes her stand out.

Great roundup!
I thought the old girls looked pretty too - Sophia Loren, Helen Mirren, even Meryl was okay this year.

Love Anna, Reese and Emily Blunt's looks. Gotta say though that I thought Julia's outfit, while realy cute, was the kind of thing I'd wear to work -- I'm just not sure it's big enough for an awards show.

Reese is always a class act!

Averill, I completely agree about Julia. I think I was just happy to see something that wasn't a monstrosity of tulle in an offensive color! It is a little on the casual side for an awards show.

I agree that Emily Blunt's dress was perfection. I also thought Jennifer Garner looked beautiful.

Love Julia Roberts dress. Very chic. Though I know these awards shows are a HUGE deal in Hollywood the understated beauty shines through like a beam of light. Reese Witherspoon looked beautiful as well. She is really a class act.

Wel, put me in the minority on this blog, but I thought Sandra Bullock's hair and dress were beautiful ! That color, the waist, the bodice, the fabric, and the soft hair and makeup were stunning.I have to say that the style gurus on the Today Show said the same.

I also thought that Sandra looked absolutely beautiful. i missed the awards and only saw a few of the red carpets photos. I am someone (living in NY) who only wears black and my reaction would be to go straight to Julia's photo but there was a soft beautiful quality to Sandra's look for the evening.
