Summer time is usually a great time to dine alfresco. Unfortunately, this is not the case in Houston where it has been hotter than hades for the past three weeks! We have reached temperatures over 100 degrees several days in a row now. This awful heat has me longing for cooler weather in which one could enjoy a beautiful meal outdoors without melting or being eaten alive by mosquitoes. I've gathered some alfresco dining images for us to daydream about together.

These spaces look heavenly and I absolutely love the overhanging trees. They would be perfect spots to have a glass of wine and catch up on your summer reading (I just purchased a few of the books on your summer reading list).

Such lovely examples of dining outdoors. My favorite is the domino photo with the striped tent. I am with you, I really miss being able to enjoy our lovely outdoors due to the extreme heat. It looks like no relief for today either. I'm dreaming of the day when we can move to San Diego where dining alfresco is much more obtainable. Thanks for the lovely pic's today xx deb
My favorite thing is eating and entertaining outdoors, however, in Miami it's been just as hot. The mosquitoes have been terrible and the humidity, worst ever! Those images are breathtaking!
So lovely! My faves are the 2 outdoor tables w/ chandeliers from Domino...I miss that magazine!

Hey, it doesn't have to be a dream though. What you could do is just have a large umbrella on top of the tables. Make a station for a home bar, and refresh yourself with refreshing iced drink. Trust me, it will feel good even in the summer heat.

I entertain all of the time outside. And all of the pics are so great, I can't pick a favorite!

A great post, I'm hungry already.
What a great collection. The Paul Harvey one is my favourite - minus the pigeons.
I don't currently have an outdoor space, this post just adds salt to that wound...
You are so right! Dining al fresco is a wonderful thing. Living in Southern Ontario, the weather makes is possible but the humidity and mosquitos make it challenging. Generally, you need to be on a screened in porch or a mildly windy night. Hubby and I dined al fresco for our anniversary dinner and it was devine.
I wish I had an outdoor space at my place, luckly my parents have a beautiful screened in porch that we get to use when the BF and I go up north. Its great because the mosquitoes cant get us there- they are awful up here in New England :)
The plastic Hedgerow shrubs in the white planters with the black and white striped canvas in the background is Stephen Shubel's SF office patio. I dig today's post !
Paloma - I can't pick one! seriously - they are all too pretty!
The candle light flickering amongst the night shade trees, is the one that is speaking directly to me.
Though that Houston House could be a real life runner up.
I do need to make a few Summer night invites. The neighbors on both sides have been begging for Chinese dumplings dipped in Ginger sauce.
I just need to make it happen! ;P
Love your blog! all of the outdoor dining pics are lovely... my favorite is probably the 1st "House Beautiful" (the one on the old brick patio and hanging chandelier)
Wow- being included among all-stars like House Beautiful and Domino is seriously making us blush. Thanks so much for the sweet shout out!
xoxo,
Sherry (& John)
