Glamour Obsession: French, Do It Better.

Bonjour, kiss kiss!  Vanessa Stern here from Vanessa & Valentine.  They say French women don't get fat, maybe it's because they like to look so stylish all the time!  As a self described Francophile, I love all things French and I especially love French style (and French House music too).  I've been dying to get back to Paris again, even if it's just for 5 short days, and I've made a promise with myself to one day live there for an entire season.  Check out some of my favorite French styles...    

A French women knows the importance of the little black dress, but she also knows how to kick it up a notch with black lace, a little black Chanel purse, tan top coat, and a messy, yet stylish up 'do.  I love how French women always seem to look so polished even when their hair is disheveled.
She knows the importance of a good trench coat topped over a basic black sweater and jeans, but she glams it up with mile high pumps and of course, a chic bun.
She loves a French crystal chandelier for every room.
Carine Roitfeld is the epitome of French chic with her dark belted trench and black sunnies.  This chick can do no wrong in my book!   
She pairs a gray trench and mile high studded boots with gold jewelry and aviators (and gotta love the messy hair!)
She understands the importance of tan and white, with brown leather year round and she stays warm with a stylish hat...
She spices things up with a flowy little red number and a bold blue clutch!
She invests in the classics...

...and she knows less is more by pairing skinnies with a perfectly tailored blazer over a simple black tee, topped off with killer stilettos, and playful braids (a classic black purse is a must).
She is known for her energy and joie de vivre...
She chooses earthy, neutral colors and casually throws her hair up in a loose chignon...
...or she will opt for something more serious, structured, and sophisticated.  The black bob hairstyle is her calling card so watch out!
She loves a sidewalk cafe and will sip an espresso or glass of red mid-day with no remorse. 
She adores black lace dresses, hair styled long and layered, and her favorite shade of red lipstick.
She takes public transportation and navigates through the city streets in heels...
She rides a little Vespa to the cafe.
She'll even wear skin tight snakeskin in the middle of the day just because she can.

Jet Set: J.K. Place Roma

{As a blogger, decorator, and general design addict, I appreciate a lot of design styles, but Michele Bonan's work resonates with me on a a very different level. At my core, this is the style I love most, what speaks to me more than anything else-- a mix of classic and modern, a refined palette with a touch of bold patterns and a pop of color. I just can't get enough.} 

I have been a big fan of Italian architect and interior designer, Michele Bonan's work for several years now, so naturally, I am always thrilled to learn about one of his new projects. Most recently, Bonan worked with Ori Kafri, owner of the ultra-chic J.K. Place Florence and J.K. Place Capri hotels to open the brand's latest outpost in the Eternal City of Rome, the J.K. Place Roma. Situated in a 19th century building that previously housed the University of Rome's school of architecture in a prime location near the Spanish Steps, this new hotel follows in the footsteps of the other J.K. hotels, combining spectacular, historic architecture with modern interiors and an unparalleled level of bespoke luxury. 

Featuring just 30 rooms in various sizes and levels of decadence, this stunning property is also home to a restaurant, the J.K. Cafe, and an expertly-curated library filled with stylish tomes on a variety of subjects. Proprietor Kafri recently told Travel + Leisure, "I love to combine the familiarity of staying with friends and the efficiency of staying in a large, five star hotel." The formula seems to be working rather well at all of the J.K. Hotels. I know where I want to stay the next time I visit Italy!

{How amazing are the marble door frames? The architecture of the room itself is beautiful, but the chic furnishings take the space to a whole new level.}

{I love the sleek lines of the furniture and lighting juxtaposed against the quintessentially Roman statues.}

{So many chic contrasts-- notice the amazing sconces, too.}

{Rosewood-lined walls in the bar at the J.K. Cafe create a warm, mid-century inspired vibe.}

{Couldn't you picture Don Draper and Roger Sterling of Mad Men chatting up some pretty young things in this bar?}

{As a designer, I learn so much from studying the rooms created by the designers I most admire. Bonan's work is a study in contrasts filled with beautiful details everywhere you turn while Kafri is a master at creating an intimate, personal experience at his hotel properties.}

{It's interesting to me that the more formal areas of the hotel seem to have a more restrained color palette while the more casual areas are done in vibrant colors. There is nothing shy about this room. Notice the saffron yellow taffeta silk wall covering in the background.}

{I love the Italian sputnik-style chandelier in the lounge. It really makes the room.}

{The library is another favorite space of mine. I love the mix of mid-century inspired furniture with the Moroccan Beni Ourain rug and the richness of the wood-lined walls.}

Jet Set: A Nantucket Getaway

Hello LDV readers! Brendan here of (BAD) Blog About Design. Have I got a getaway for you! This amazing boutique hotel is located in lovely Nantucket. During the fall, a trip to Nantucket is absolutely beautiful with all the leaves changing colors. The hotel is housed in a 19th-century captain's home and does not fall short of original detailing. The best part? The hotel is located close to all the main places! (ABOVE) I love the look of this hotel, and that's probably because it feels like home. No fancy motorcourts or three story lobby, just a historic house, ideal for peaceful getaway.

(1)  When you walk into the hotel you are greeted by a cozy lobby and impeccable original woodwork. I love the mix of classic and contemporary.

(2) The main seating area in the lobby is this gorgeous blue and cream space. I love the mix of prints in this space. It's not too much. I love how much this space feels like it belongs in someone's home. Which piece is your favorite?

(3) The Coffee Cafe is the perfect place to charge up in the morning. The cafe offers different baked goods such as sconces, lemon bars, and homemade cookies. The space is designed in bold blues, whites, and a pop of color coming from the flower. I love the striped wall, a strong focal piece.

(4) Hello breakfast! I could totally picture myself waking up to a breakfast like this. Some granola with yogurt and fruits, toasted corn muffin, a warm sconce, a fruit cup and some coffee. Not only does the food look amazing, but so does the display. There is so much attention to detail at this hotel.

(5) With 21 guest rooms, the hotel is on the smaller size. The nice thing about staying at a boutique hotel is the peace and quiet. I love the the cool blues in this space. From the headboard to the lamp, this space is full of style. An added feature is that all 21 suites have an iPad, and Apple T.V and iPod docking station. Wouldn't you like to stay in a suite like this?

(6) Off the hotel is a wonderful courtyard. This courtyard is unique to the 76 Main. The courtyard features a firepit, bar, and wonderful landscaping. The courtyard is a great place to sit back and relax after a long day exploring Nantucket.

(7) I love this photograph of Nantucket. When in Nantucket there are many things to do. The Whaling Museum is full of the history of Nantucket's whaling industry and artifacts. It's a great place to get an overview of some of Nantucket's history. The Petticoat Row bakery is rated #1 in Nantucket in places to eat, so stop by! What do you think of the 76 Main?

Jet Set: Piazza di Spagna in Rome

Hello LDV readers! Brendan here of B.A.D | Blog About Design. For today's Jet Set post I've decided to take us to the wonderful country of Italy. Italy is a country rich in history, culture, art, everything! It has to be one of my favorite countries to visit. The Piazza di Spagna 9 located in Rome is hands down the place to visit. The hotel prides itself on being not only a hotel, but also an art gallery. That's right folks, if you find something you like while staying here you can actually buy it. The hotel is located right in one of Rome's most famous squares. The exterior of the hotel is far more classic while the interior is more modern.

The front check in desk is very minimal. The hotel is pretty minimal in design and that's because you can purchase any piece you like. The hotel is defiantly small with only six suites.

This lobby area if full of gorgeous pieces. I'm a huge fan of the deep suede armchairs, and retro console table.

The hotel features a small cafe area where guests and art watchers can enjoy some treats. The view from the cafe most be beautiful!

This window is located in one of the six suites. Can you image opening your window to this view? What a convenient location!

The suites are minimal in design. Being that you're in Rome, I doubt you'll be spending much time here. I do like the small lamps on the bedside tables. I wonder if you can buy things in your suite as well?

This large window faces out onto the city. I'd love to roll over to this view while I'm staying in Rome. What do you think of this boutique hotel? Would you stay here or have you already?
