Sid and Ann Mashburn Come to Houston

{The Chic Entrance at Ann Mashburn}

The other day, I stopped into my favorite store, a bientot for a little holiday shopping and was happy to see that Ann Mashburn and Sid Mashburn had opened just a few doors down in the same shopping center on the corner of Westheimer Road and River Oaks Boulevard. If you've read La Dolce Vita for a while then you've surely heard me talk about how much I love a bientot, also known as my version of accessories heaven. So naturally, I am excited that another chic shop has opened up in the center. Instead of focusing on just one space in a "Fabulous Room" feature today, I thought it would be fun to give you a tour of the new Mashburn.

Ann and Sid founded their eponymous stores in Atlanta after moving there from New York where they each had illustrious careers in fashion-- he designing for Ralph Lauren and J. Crew and she as an editor at Vogue and Glamour.  The Houston store is their second outpost and exudes style in every corner. I visited their Atlanta store in January and loved it, so I was excited to see what they had done with the space here. Naturally, it is just as chic as I had expected. Think whitewashed brick and steel case windows and doors, and seagrass carpeting layered with colorful rugs throughout; a Saarinen Tulip Table, whimsical chandelier, stunning Chinoiserie panels, Parsons-style shelves, and pops of pink on the Ann Mashburn side; blue-grey fixtures, brass accents, a ping pong table, and taxidermy on the Sid Mashburn side. The Mashburns have an amazing aesthetic which permeates everything they touch. I felt leaving just as inspired by the design of the space as by the beautifully curated merchandise.

{This further cements my desire for a Saarinen Tulip Table!}

{Beautiful Chinoiserie Panels behind the Cash Wrap}
{Notice the brass clothing racks. I also love the low slung cabinet below.}

{The clothing in Ann Mashburn is merchandised by color. Of course, I loved all the navy.}

{I love this dress, but I think it would be better suited for someone super tall and thin like Gisele.}

{The doors and white-washed brick are so chic.}

{The Dressing Rooms}

{I love the thick, floating Parsons-style shelves throughout the store. I designed something very similar for the built-in in my family room.}

{Chic Shoes and Booties}

{Sid Mashburn-- I love the vibe on the men's side, too!}

{Chic Custom Built-Ins/Displays}

{I am obsessed with this rug/desk/chair combination-- so chic!}

Win $5,000 from Target!

Do you ever find yourself running into Target for a few items—shampoo, toilet paper, deodorant—and you somehow end up leaving with a ton of stuff you didn’t know you needed? Ahh, that’s the magic of Target! One of my best friends recently moved to Slovakia for her husband’s job and do you know what tops her list of things to do when they come back to Houston for Christmas? You guessed it—she wants to go to Target! Target has long been a go-to store for me for so many things and they have really upped the ante on their clothing, accessories, and homegoods recently. I love their collaboration with Nate Berkus as well as their new Threshold line. I also love that they are carrying Alexis Swanson Traina’s fabulous Modern House Wines. They’re delicious and the labels are adorable. If you need a last minute gift for someone, head to Target, pick up a bottle of Modern House Wines, add a pretty ribbon, and voila!

Target recently teamed up with Refinery29 to put together an amazing and super simple holiday contest with a huge giveaway—a $5,000 Target Giftcard that you can use for anything in the store. In order to enter and get the full details, you’ll need to click through to Refinery29. Good luck! Imagine how far $5,000 would go at Target. The possibilities are endless!

Win $5,000 from Target + Refinery29!

P.S. You cannot enter this contest on LDV, you’ll need to hop over to Refinery29 to submit your entry.

Two Styles, One Room: Classic and Edgy Living Room

Hello LDV readers!  It's Rebecca and Paula from Sea Island Drive!  We're thrilled to be sharing our first Two Styles. One Room. post with you and are honored to be part of the LDV team. Both working interior designers, we feel the best spaces are created when two (or more) styles merge...classic meets edgy, masculine meets feminine, rustic meets refined. When styles collide in just the right way, it creates a space that is rich and complex.

So, today we're featuring a space that fearlessly mixes stunning classic details with edgy, modern furnishings. A space we are both smitten with!

This gorgeous living room is obviously rich in traditional character. The fireplace surround, the ornate plaster ceiling medallion, the crown molding and base boards with a traditional cap--all of these reference a style much different than the modern, clean lines of the chandelier and furnishings. But, they work so artfully together that not only do we desperately want to sit in those chairs and chat over a couple of glasses of champagne, but we are dying to see the rest of this incredible residence.

So, why do they work together? Well, there are a couple of things to take note of.  First, the homeowner (and designer, most likely) committed whole heartedly to the mix of styles. They honored both the architecture and the collection of modern art, lighting, and furniture by letting the architecture shine and keeping the furniture sleek in contrast. Second, they kept the color palette relatively quiet. Knowing that the architecture and the furnishings were both going to make such big statements, and such different statements, it was wise to not throw bold colors and patterns into the mix.

We think this is a perfectly executed room where classic meets edgy. It's sophisticated, elegant, and rich. Most importantly, it makes you want to stay and see more!

Are you inspired to create your own custom mix of styles in your home? Tell us, what combination of styles best describes you and your dream home?

Inspiring Design: Club Monaco Flagship Store

club monaco women's lounge

{The Lounge in the Women’s Dressing Room is my Favorite Space—So Chic!}

If you are anything like me, you might be guilty of favoring beautifully designed shops and restaurants over others that may have good merchandise and food, but where the design pales in comparison. One such spot is the newly remodeled Club Monaco Flagship store in New York. Though I haven’t visited it yet, the new Club Monaco store is definitely on my list of places to visit the next time I am in New York. Located on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan’s Flat Iron district, the 20,000 square foot space was renovated and transformed from a mere retail store into a veritable lifestyle destination featuring a bookstore operated by the Strand along with a coffee shop, and a flower shop. The flagship is also home to a Women’s Floor including clothing, accessories, and a shoe shop. The men’s floor includes an area with clothing from the regular Club Monaco line as well as a shop within shop called “Made in USA” displaying goods that are exactly that—made in the USA. Let’s take a little virtual tour, shall we?
