Fabulous Room Friday 06.21.13

Good morning! I am back from a fantastic trip to Los Angeles. I had the best time with my dear friend, Mark and his wonderful team. It  was so great to get away, focus on some design projects and ideas together, and have a fabulous time all the while! I am so grateful to have such an amazing friend who shares my same passions and who has been a mentor to me as a designer.

Featured in the new issue of ELLE DECOR, this week’s fabulous room is the beautiful bedroom in the stunning apartment at the famed Plaza Hotel that Steven Gambrel recently designed. Having spent my time in L.A. sleeping in a gorgeous canopied bed, I can attest to the sumptuous, inviting quality they possess. It’s like sleeping in a chic cloud. I love that the room’s overall palette is soft and neutral, with hints of color in unexpected places—pale blue moldings, yellow window frames, and pale Robin’s Egg Blue trim on the bed’s canopy. The gorgeous chocolate tufted settee at the foot of the bed is one of my favorite pieces in the space. Each piece is a stand-out on its own, so naturally, the combination of all of the pieces is gorgeous. The overall look is layered, collected, and totally chic. What’s not to love?

Jet Set: Ett Hem Stockholm

http://www.cntraveler.com
Hello LDV readers! Brendan here of (BAD) Blog About Design. For this Jet Set post I decided to take us to wonderful Stockholm. The Ett Hem is a small hotel that features 12 suites, located in what was once a private residence. The hotel is an uber luxury take on the B&B concept. At the hotel guests are treated like friends (according to their website) and can enjoy goodies in the fridge, borrow a car, or open a bottle of wine, sounds pretty good to me! The best part is the hotel is a 10 minute walk to the center of Stockholm. Tons of shops, places to eat, and things to do right around the corner. (ABOVE) I love the idea of visiting such a beautiful city and being able to stay in quaint, small hotel. You really get a feel of what's it's like to live like a local. The architecture of the hotel is stunning, it was designed in the early 20th century. (BELOW 1) At the back of the hotel is this fantastic garden. Sit back and read a book or just soak in the nature. The garden has such a quaint feel, sitting back here you feel like you're at someone's private residence. How great is that door that opens to the street? (BELOW 2) The Green Room opens up to the back garden. In the Green Room you can sit back and relax on the sofa, or eat breakfast at the table (yes, breakfast is included)! I love the laid back relaxed feel of the space. (BELOW 3) In the lounge one can relax in one of the those awesomely cool green arm chairs, Danish armchairs, or sofa. The space feels like a Living Room! (BELOW 4) The library is stock full of books in different languages, and about different topics that one can borrow. I love the pop of red from that arm chair! (BELOW 5) A guest suite. The space is very neutral, not full of patterns and color. A great place to come back to after a busy day touring the city. The wood burning fireplace to the left is an added bonus. (BELOW 6) The best part about the larger suites are these bathrooms. Who wouldn't want to be soaking in that tub? What do you think of the Ett Hem? Have you been here before?

Dissecting the Details: Nate Berkus

Hello LDV readers! Nancy of Marcus Design here, back with another installment of 'Dissecting the Details.' Nate Berkus, the king of perfectly layered & curated spaces knows how to pull together amazing office spaces. He's got a formula that works every time. Let's dissect 4 key elements that Nate uses in his chic office spaces.

Built in wall-sconces, table and floor lamps, and over-head fixtures will add points of visual interest and warmth to a den or office space. It perfectly lends to a cozy library feel!

Whether it's as simple as picture frames, or chairs, or even a one of a kind vintage brass and glass desk, a touch of warm metal adds a luxe feel to the space.

Take the books all the way to the ceiling in your work space! The texture of books is like nothing else; it gives a grand feeling and remains cozy at the same time.

I adore that Nate often adds an office 'nook' with a desk and chairs within a living room space. In this atypical office space not only is there ample seating nearby, but it also allows for a more open and airy feel compared to the traditional den.

Nate definitely triumphs the typical office space, don't you agree?
