Photo of the Day 04.19.12

Pinned Image

I saw this image on Pinterest the other day and was immediately drawn in. Not only is it a great shot from an editorial perspective, but there is such an inviting ease in this room. Upon further inspection of the space, I noticed the Beni Ourain rug on the left and the spotted rug on the right. I love them separately, but am not as sure about them side by side. What are your thoughts on using two different but coordinating rugs next to one another like this? Would you ever try this in your own home?

Headed to High Point!

279

I am off to High Point Market today as thousands of people from the design industry descend on North Carolina to see the best and brightest in home furnishings and accessories. I am crossing my fingers that I will have a little time to get out and explore some of the other showrooms. High Point is such a great place to draw inspiration. If you’re planning to attend Market, be sure to stop by the Visual Comfort showroom in the C & D Building where I will be spending the majority of my time. See you soon!

Do Tell: Which trends should go and which should stay?

Pinned Image

When much of your life revolves around design, whether through work or through personal interest, it’s hard to ignore when new trends pop up. I am not someone who is averse to trends, though I am selective about the ones that I embrace and I usually pair them with classic pieces, whether in my wardrobe or in my décor. However, this week, I’ve seen some comments in the blogosphere about people who are completely against trends or who find it contrived to use too many at once. I think personal style is about knowing what to pick and choose, not being a slave to whatever the fashion and shelter magazines are deeming to be on trend. At the end of the day, you should buy what you love.

Anyhow, this all leads to a question-- I would love to know which trends you’ve had enough of and what you would like to see more of. As I head to High Point tomorrow, it will be interesting to see what is new in interior design, furnishings, and accessories and what feels like an old record being played over again. I’d love to hear your perspective on trends in both interior design and fashion. What are you over and what are you wholeheartedly embracing that you don’t think you’ll get tired of?

New Series: Closet Confidential

I am very excited to welcome La Dolce Vita’s newest contributor, Liz Schneider of Sequins & Stripes today! Liz is a Chicago-based fashion stylist and blogger and she will regularly be sharing her fashion insight with us here on LDV.

Me

{Liz Schneider}

Hi there! It's Liz Schneider from the fashion and style blog, Sequins & Stripes, and I am thrilled to be a new contributor on LDV sharing my favorite fashion tips and trends in a new series called "Closet Confidential." I have so many exciting + stylish ideas for future posts but I thought what better way to dive into a new series than with a sense of style that all of us strive to obtain; effortless style.
Clearly, it doesn't take much to appear effortless. Start with one piece that makes a statement, whether it be a pair of patent pink shoes, adorable tortoise sunglasses, a mix of feminine + edgy elements, casual tennis shoes, or a metallic skirt. Build you outfit based on this piece and layer with a few basics from your closet, add a top knot on your head, and off you go! The less thought the better, here are a few statement pieces to get you started...
...add a little confidence and everyone on the streets will be turning their heads!
Until next time, have a stylish week!
Liz

La Dolce Vita in Ivy & Piper Magazine

ivypiper3
A huge thanks goes out to the lovely editors of the Australian digital shelter magazine, Ivy & Piper, Melanie Parker and Elizabeth Raptis for inviting me to contribute to their March / April 2012 issue. They asked me to share my top style picks for the current season. If you’ve read La Dolce Vita long enough, you’re probably not surprised to see plenty of bright colors and bold patterns in my round-up! You can read the fabulous issue and see my spread on pg. 52 by clicking here. Included in my style-must haves are items from Iomoi, Stella & Dot, Cococozy, Luxury Monograms, Visual Comfort & Co., Tory Burch, and Leontine Linens. Which of these pieces is your favorite?
