My Favorite Room: Sally Wheat

Hi everyone, itʼs Sally Wheat from Sally Wheat Interiors and Iʼm happy to be participating in Palomaʼs “Favorite Room” series. My favorite room in our home is the family room. We spend a ton of time in this room, as itʼs adjacent to the kitchen and breakfast room. This is where we watch TV, hang out with the dogs~ itʼs basically the center of all the activity in our house.

Iʼve been really happy with the fabric choices I made in this room. Being a little bit of a neat freak I get really bothered if a piece of furniture shows dirt or wear. The pair of sofas, which originally had linen slipcovers, are now covered in a Pindler and Pindler gray velvet. They have definitely taken a licking, with 2 kids and 2 dogs. Love love love my vintage tufted Milo Baughman chair covered in Pindler and Pindler white vinyl. Again, the vinyl is easy to take care of and I donʼt have to worry about spills and dirty paws. Another bonus: the neutral upholstery allows me to add or take away color any time I want!

When we started building this house several years ago, I knew I didnʼt want the standard built in bookshelves on either side of the fireplace. So I was on a mission to find the perfect pair of doors. I tell you this was no easy task! After many weeks of searching and getting dangerously close to my builderʼs deadline, I found them practically in my own back yard at Bill Gardenerʼs Antiques! We had them retrofitted in the wall with shelves behind each on. One side holds the TV, while the other side is great storage for everything from candles to art projects. Simple white linen drapes frame the back yard view.

Another favorite in the room is my vintage lucite and brass coffee table. It belonged to a friend of mine who inherited it from her mother. My friend loved the lucite but not the brass details and asked if I would be interested in it. Umm, seriously?! The brass details were what made it special in my opinion! So I was all yes please Iʼll take it before you change your mind thank you very much! And I love seeing the old Beni Ourain rug underneath the glass table top. The little stool I found at a thrift shop and covered it with fur. The abstract art by Amanda Talley has lived on several walls in my house and looks great in every spot Iʼve put it in. I love the bold black and white with touches of gold.

This gallery wall is ever growing as I canʼt pass up great pieces of art. Gallery walls are great for people like me who love the thrill of the hunt!

I found the antique English chest on a trip to Round Top and use it to store all sorts of things. The two pieces of art at the top are actually butterfly wing collages!

Last but not least, the absolute best part of this room/photo is my awesome dog, Winnie. We adopted her last year from Shaggy Dog Rescue here in Houston. She is the sweetest, coolest dog on the planet. Shaggy Dog places their dogs in other parts of the country too through Rescue Road Trips. So even if you donʼt live in Houston and are wanting to expand your family, please check them out at www.houstonshaggydogrescue.org or drop by your local rescue shelter.

Love every single inch of this room- the Mouille floor lamp and artwork offset the pretty stuff with such great edge!

This room is incredible!!! It is probably one of my favorites out of the ones I've seen on your site. I really like that everything seems to have a story and the pieces are so random but they come together so nicely! Inspiration!
