{Bold, Geometric Pattern on Painted Wood Floors by Mary McDonald}
Many of us love a good, bold pattern and we frequently introduce them into spaces through the use of graphic rugs. However, last week’s episode of Million Dollar Decorators got me thinking more about patterned floors after seeing the zig zag design Mary McDonald created for her client. Could you go beyond a bold, patterned rug and fully commit to all-over pattern through tile or painted wood floors? How do you feel about this look?

I think it really depends of the pattern, but overall, I usually like them. Not to have all over the house, because that would make me dizzy, but I love the idea of having it in my dining room.
By the way, I just finished a post about the newest issue of High Gloss. I loved all the colors! So beautiful, Paloma!

I have 14" black and white tiles set on the diagonal in my kitchen and I love them. Wouldn't do it anywhere else in the house but it's great in a kitchen.
I love the graphic floors by Mary McDonald and patterned tile in bathrooms. I would definitely go for this look!
Love it! Not everywhere, but I enjoy a bold, graphic statement in a room.
Love it! Pattern floors are not a new trend, they have been around forever. They are classic and create a bold statement. I think they are fabulous:)

Well, actually I love all those rooms with those patterned floors; don't know if I would be brave enough to put them in my house though, hehe =).

Love, love, love!!!
we are redoing our bathroom this summer and that hexagonal floor you have (from pinterest) is definitely an inspiration. I am over the plain tile look so I want an old fashioned pattern!
Love them!
Love these floors especially the first one! Just worried that if I get tired of it what would I do?
I've always loved patterned floors. I just didn't know HOW much until this post. Thank you.
I absolutely love the patterned floors but seeing as how I can't even afford the satellite package that includes bravo so I can watch MDD I guess this will have to be a leave it for me. I think they look fabulous and would definitely work for someone who has the money to change as soon as they tire of them. But for someone who doesn't have that luxury I think sticking with a bold rug is the better choice.
Really stunning stuff here, especially Mary's..
Love it as long as the pattern isn't too much.
Wow these are gorgeous examples! Love the MMD and the Christina Murphy floors, although I'm really digging that hex pattern! Wow.
Love the idea of patterned floors. However, it always depends on the pattern, the person, and the amount (because even the best of things can become too much).

How can I leave them when I've just recently fallen in love with them?!? LOVE. Mary McDonald is proving herself the master, right?
That Cote de Texas bathroom was designed by my dear friend and amazing talent, Julie Dodson. Such awesome examples, Paloma!
I love patterned floors. I especially love the chevron floors you've showcased here!
Love it but for now am going to leave it to others. Love High Gloss #3!!
Love all these pictures!
Love the pics!
LOVE. I like it better when its made out of tile or marble than when its painted on. But in general: LOVE!
I do love the images as shown but I might suggest, that when doing a patterned floor, that is the star of the "show". The rest has to take a backseat as to not compete with the floor.
I love patterned floors in smaller spaces, like bathrooms. Actually, I feel exactly the same way about wallpaper. Great in a small space, but overwhelming in a large room.
Great examples. I personally am a little chicken to do boldly patterned floors (especially those that are permanent). You really have to ensure that the rest of the furnishings go well with it and are properly integrated, otherwise you will have a design disaster.
Ohhhhh, that kitchen. Wowzers !!
Really loving patterned floors ever since I saw the one Mary McDonald did on MMD...I'm obsessed with it and want that look for my home office! Love the inspiration here...thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this wonderful post. Patterned floors are among the trendy home designs and will certainly stay because these just bring so much life to a home. The patterns do bring an energetic or lively ambience to the place. However, I do think this only works pretty well when done on certain areas only and not the whole house. Anyway, the first example you have is absolutely brilliant.
