I am seriously head over heels in love with this gorgeous kitchen designed by Tommy Smythe. Tommy is Sarah Richardson’s design sidekick on her show Sarah’s House which airs on HGTV. I might be the only design blogger out there who really doesn’t watch HGTV, but I just may start after seeing this kitchen. It is so incredibly chic, yet it feels completely attainable. Of course, I love the black and white palette and the use of classic elements like the carrera marble, black and white cabinetry, timeless hardware, and the oversized lantern. The addition of built-ins is also fabulous. Who wouldn’t love all of that storage for wine and cookbooks?
{The elements of the kitchen are rather simple, but the style is in the details. I’m planning to do a budget renovation of my kitchen in the next few months and this has me seriously contemplating white upper cabinets and black lowers. I know I definitely want a carrera marble backsplash since I won’t be able to use it for my counters.}
{I love the window. It must be old, don’t you think? The sink adds a modern touch and seems really practical. Also, look look closely in the pictures and you’ll notice that the entire countertop from the stove to the microwave is stainless steel.}
{How gorgeous are the herringbone-patterned slate floors? Camila mentioned them on her blog the other day. I think she may be right about reproducing this look fairly easily, thought the labor may be pricey.}

This is my dream kitchen! Absolutely beautiful and so full of character. Love!
This is stunning. I love the tiles the best and the dark dark decor. It makes a nice change from all the white kitchens out there that I loved before seeing this one :p xxx
I L O V E the lantern and the wine built in. Gorgeous Friday feature. Thank you!

Love the floor and lantern.... Wish I could blink that table into my house! We just redid our kitchen here in Houston and I got as far as the main parts but can't seem to commit to any furniture. :)
Love love this kitchen, I always love just about anything done in black and white and this kitchen is stunning. It still has a look of a design that took time to get it this way and I like that. One of the prettiest kitchens I ever did for a client was all black cupboards, it really is stunning and it is a cozy look and a striking look. I say go for it, you will love it!! Kathysue
This is classic but not boring. I love the sink & floors.
If you get a sec, please visit my post today. My friend is trying out for design star and I have to promote her fabulousness!
Have a good weekend...Julie
Awww I love Tommy! And this kitchen is gorgeous.
A beautiful execution...and I love all the timeless pieces such as the carrera marble...which, hopefully, all have installed in my kitchen next summer...
My favorite HGTV shows: Color Splash, The Antonio Project, The Outdoor Room with Jaimie Duarie, Sarah's House, and International House Hunters.
LOVE that kitchen. Reminds me of mine, but in a classier, more put together way! Ha! I love how some of the accessories are rustic- above the door, while others are pretty glam - the flowers, the lamp and the stool at the desk. Very nice.
I agree about this kitchen! I wanted to tell you that there is a very inexpensive way to get the look of the stainless steel countertops without the cost. I just saw this in a friends laundry room that was included in a huge renovation to her house. They have the look AND FEEL of stainless, but it is laminate!! I know this is hard to believe, but laminate has a stainless steel color (for lack of a better word b/c it is real metal). The only thing you want to be sure of is to select the one that has the gray backing so that the cut lines are the same color as the stainless (rather than white lines).
LOVE the oversized lantern above kitchen table!
I'd agree... such a fabulous room! ;)

Beautiful! I'm wanting a lantern over our breakfast table so badly and this just makes it worse.
Such a beautiful kitchen. Love that the upper and lower kitchen shelves are in contrast to eachother, and together with that rustic antique kitchen table.. it almost takes you back a few years in time :) Beautiful!
love, love this kitchen! i am obsessed with those black chairs... anyone have any idea on where to find some like that?
Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful
Mandi, thanks for the laminate info!! I can't wait to research that and see what they look like! I was about to comment wondering about the durability and scratching of stainess when I read your comment. I LOVE THE LOOK OF STAINLESS!!! LOVE IT...
Love the lantern and the whole kitchen in general. Awesome.
This kitchen is FABULOUS! I love the contrasting cabinets and the lantern!
Definitely putting this in my file saved for a future kitchen redo!
Thanks for showing this!
I love it too! The glass door cabinets, slate floors, marble backsplash, it's all so gorgeous. I am so jealous of your kitchen reno, I know it will be fabulous!
So stunning! I love the rustic table with all the black and white, the herringbone floors (killer) and the backsplash (insanely amazing). I too think this look is very achievable on a budget. Keep us posted on your redo! BTW Sarah's shows are always great; Tommy is talented and funny. You should watch.
wow! what an amazing kitchen. Sarah's House is a great show, both Sarah and Tommy do beautiful work!
Really! Very very very fabulous!
I love the dark on the bottom, light on the top. I've done that before on projects and although it takes f o r e v e r to convince a client to do it, they do see how successful it is in the end. Now I can whip out this photo to show someone if I want to do it on another project. It helps to have these in your back pocket. Love that there is the black on the doors and windows, the whole space seems very well thought out. What is his background?
Tommy is THE reason I watch that show. He is talented, AND hysterical.
