I love this quote, too. It was not written by Emerson, however. A woman named Bessie A. Stanley wrote it in 1904 for a contest in a Boston Magazine. In 1990, Dear Abby further confused the authorship by attributing it to Emerson. In 1992, she publicly corrected her mistake. It is still often erroreously attributed to Emerson, the internet has caused this to happen tenfold due to ease of cut and paste. regardless of the author, I really can't think of a better answer to the question "What is success?"
