{The cast of Nine looked radiant at the 2010 SAG Awards}
In my opinion, the ladies seemed to fare much better on the red carpet for the 2010 SAG Awards than they did at last week’s Golden Globes. Some may argue that fewer fashion risks were taken, but let’s face it…risks don’t always ensure positive results. While some may have played it closer to the safe side, there were fewer disappointment’s on last night’s red carpet (at least in my humble opinion).
One of my favorite looks of the night was Glee’s Lea Michele in this gorgeous green Catherine Malandrino gown. Not only is the color absolutely beautiful (it happens to be a personal fave), but the fabric drapes her body perfectly. I love, love, love this look!
Kate Hudson seems to be feeling “white-hot” this awards season, opting for a white dress yet again. I happen to like this Emilio Pucci gown much better than the ill-fitting number she chose for the Globes. It is sexy and daring, like Kate herself.
Marion Cotillard looked fabulous in this Elie Saab. This is a woman who takes fashion risks and just about always gets it right. But alas, she is French!
Kyra Sedgwick’s ethereal Vera Wang is beautiful. I love the accent of the grey sash and embroidery. So lovely!
While Christina Applegate’s dress isn’t the most exciting, it is elegant and flattering. The color and shape look gorgeous on her.
Some thought Penélope Cruz played it too safe in this black, embellished L’Wren Scott dress. Perhaps, but the woman is smoldering. She would look amazing in a potato sack!
How adorable is An Education’s Carrie Mulligan? This beautiful, red Lanvin gown accentuates her gamine features perfectly.
Now, on to the risk-takers. I’ve read mixed reviews of Sandra Bullock’s Alexander McQueen gown. It seems some people thought the embellishment was too much. I though the silhouette was gorgeous on her and actually like the cobalt embroidery.
Just when I thought Diane Kruger could do now wrong sartorially, she showed up to last week’s Globes in a poufy, ruffly, cotton candy pink concoction, that quite frankly, I just couldn’t wrap my head around. In my eyes, she redeemed herself at the SAG Awards in this mustard yellow Jason Wu gown. I happen to like this color in casual clothing and while I probably would have preferred to see the gown in a different color, the shape is lovely and she pulls it off.
So, I can’t fully decide how I feel about Toni Colette’s Rafael Cennamo number. I like the gorgeous turquoise and gold accents (how amazing is her jewelry here?) and I think it flatters her quite well, but the ruffles may be too much. I think if the bottom of the dress were a bit different, it would be a definite hit. On another note, I don’t think Toni has ever looked better. She has looked so gorgeous and radiant lately!

I'm with you on the jade green Maladrino, and the red Lanvin - they were both divine! Good recap!
love the green dress - I also happened to be watching fashion police review of the awards at the same time that I read your post!
I love Lea's look! And Sandra Bullock looks sleek and elegant... beautiful!
I liked Toni's dress - I think its fun and young.
Kate looks 100% better than a week ago. LOVE Nicole Kidman's dress. Wow!!! And Christina may be my favorite of the night. Nice post.
I've gotta say, Toni Colette is a stunning woman. I thought she looked gorgeous at the Globes, and I think this dress from SAG is great too. The top of the dress makes my heart flutter.
You and I have very similar taste - Lea was my FAVE of the night as well!
I don't think any of these are playing it safe! WAY more interesting choices than the globes, I love nicoles dress too...even though it is seriously not me...Maybe cause it is kind of funky and different it distracts from her waxface, why nicole? WHY?
we have a lot of the same favorites! i loved kyra sedgwick and marion cotillard and lea michelle was my favorite too!
I agree with your comment about Kate Hudson's two white dresses... the one you show here looks stunning....
Loved Lea's dress the best.
Someone must have told Kate Hudson she looks amazing in white (which she does)
OK that Sandra Bullock dress......I do NOT like.
I agree with you on sandra bullock's dress, she looks gorgeous no matter what!
i'm with you on sandra bullock's dress! i think the silhouette is simple enough to let the embellishment take over. plus she's about the prettiest woman on the planet, which definitely doesn't hurt... great recap :)
my faves were diane kruger, lea michelle and kate hudson... i think if toni collettes dress continued with the gold and turquoise in a fitted silhouette instead of the ruffles it would have been gorgeous! even still, you're right, she did look great

I would agree, tamer attempts, but much classier and well done. Kyra Sedgewick was my favorite. Saw her on the red carpet and she said something as to why she chose her particular dress - it was calming - the color that is. And I would have to agree, it was just beautiful and peaceful, and so much fun to look at.
Thanks for the post and recap.
Lea and Kate rocked the house! Loved both their looks. Agree too that the SAG Award looks we better than the Globes.
Fun post!!!
